Round up of recent reissues

There’s been a range of recent reissues from the old Creation catalogue out again this summer, so here’s a quick summary of everything incase you want to buy any:

Edition 59 continue their fantatsic re-releases of all the old early Creation releases.

The latest reissues are (one of my all-time favourites) Meat Whiplash and ‘Don’t Slip Up’,’ Think’ by the Jasmine Minks and Biff Bang Pow!’s forth album from 1988 ‘Love Is Forever’. You can pick these up directly by clicking here.

Other releases coming out include the two Creation albums by The Razorcuts, ‘Storyteller’ from 1988 and ‘The World Keeps Turning’ from 1989. The Boo Radleys also have four of their Creation albums re-released with ‘Giant Steps’ and ‘Wake Up!’ being released as 3cd sets, ‘C’Mon Kids’ as a 2cd set and ‘Kingsize’ has some bonus tracks.

All three of Slowdive’s Creation releases have been reissued as 2cd sets. Both of the BMX Bandits Creation albums from the 90’s are also being re-released with bonus tracks and The Bodines only long-player has also just been reissued. Played which was released on Magnet back in 1987 included the bands single on Creation ‘Therese’. You can pick these up by clicking here.

Finally, Momus has a new album out now called ‘Hypnoprism’. Below is the video for the title track from the album.

Pete Fijalkowski and Terry Bickers announce Munich date

Pete Fijalkowski of Adorable and Terry Bickers of The House of Love have announced a new date at Kranhalle in Munich on Friday July 16th. Further details of the gig can be found on Pete’s MySpace page which can be found by clicking here or via the venue website here.

The duo are currently recording an album which they hope to release next year with various live dates to follow.

Pete Fijalkowski also travelled to Berlin in autumn last year to record vocals on the track ‘Drop Hawaii’ by Mexican Elvis, which appears on their new album ‘John Frum Alaska’ due out in Germany in July. Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie recruits The Who and Sex Pistols members for new band

NME.com reports that Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has unveiled a unique one-off collaboration featuring members of the Sex Pistols and The Who.

The side project, entitled Silver Machine, have been announced to perform a special covers show at London’s 1234 festival in Shoreditch on July 24.

Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, The Who and former Oasis sticksman Zak Starkey, plus Primal Scream guitarists Andrew Innes and Barrie Cadogan have signed up for the covers project.

The band will performing a collection of their favourite songs by The Troggs, MC5, Creation, Thr Flamin’ Groovies and The Chocolate Watch Band for the bash.

“We’re great and we can’t wait,” declared frontman Bobby Gillespie.

Festival director Sean McLusky added: “We did a show at the Whitechapel Gallery with S.C.U.M and a bunch of other artists, Bobby was playing and rocked ‘Wild Thing’ by The Troggs with Jamie Hince from The Kills, so I asked him if he would do more of the same at the festival, so now we have….The Silver Machine.”

Brian Cannon launches new website

Brian Cannon who designed all of the early Oasis sleeves alongside the cover of Super Furry Animals’ debut album has launched a new website.

The website celebrates the twentieth anniversary of his agency Microdot Creative and includes many shots of sleeves being created. You may recognise the writing below.

New Television Personalities tribute album to be released

Jim Jasmine (Jim Shepherd of the Jasmine Minks), Boyracer and The Painted Word are featured on volume 3 of the Television Personalities tribute albums released by Canada’s Beautiful Music label.

Previous versions included Phil Wilson, BMX Bandits, Biff Bang Pow! Nikki Sudden and The Legend!

Jasmine Minks release new EP

The Jasmine Minks have released a new EP of unreleased tracks from 1992 with all proceeds from the EP going to MacMillan Cancer Support charity.

The website states: “Oatcake Records are proud to release as their inaugural record, a Jasmine Minks 4 track CD ‘Poppy White’ recorded in 1992 and never before released. This 4 track ep is dedicated to the memory of 2 guys very important in the Minks, sadly with us no more. All proceeds from this sale will go to the MacMillan Cancer Support charity. mp3 versions are available from i-tunes, amazon, 7digital, tesco and many more places throughout the world.”

In other Jasmine Minks news, the band’s 1984 single ‘Think’ has been re-released by Vollwert Records as part of the Edition 59 series.

The single which was originally released as a 7inch single in 1984 has been repressed as a strictly limited of 59 copies on 3inch cd single.

Phil Wilson to release new album and single

Phil Wilson has announced he is to release a new album and single in the autumn.

A posting made by Phil on Drowned In Sound states:

“After a mere 25 year gap, I have new material coming out on Slumberland in the US and yesboyicecream in Europe. 7″ single in October, vinyl album in November. I’m excited, anyway!

Kevin Shields guests on Roky Erickson tribute album

Uncut reports that acclaimed UK indie label Sonic Cathedral is set to release a tribute album to former 13th Floor Elevators frontman Roky Erickson.

‘The Psychedelic Sounds Of The Sonic Cathedral’ features contributions from the likes of Dead Meadow, A Place To Bury Strangers and an appearance from Erickson himself.

Erickson will be backed by My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields and The Black Angels on a live rendition of 13th Floor Elevators’ classic, ‘Roller Coaster’.

The album will be released on June 7.

Playlist – Creation Singles 76 to 100

Starting during the long hot summer of 1990 and ending in the spring of 1991, this chapter in Creation sees a massive drift in direction with dance explosion of the late 80’s now having a huge effect on the label. In the UK this was also a time of massive change with the Poll Tax Riot which eventually saw Thatcher get the boot, the beginning of the Gulf War and a general feeling of euphoria that the 80’s was over. Tucked away between the dance tracks are also some of the labels most famous singles by the likes of Primal Sceam, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver and Slowdive.
