My Bloody Valentine to record two new albums

My Bloody ValentineMy Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields has confirmed that the band are set to record two new albums.

After playing a headline set at ATP New York on September 21, Shields said that he wants to restart work on songs written for the band's aborted third album.

The last LP the group released was 'Loveless' in November 1991.

"I realised that all that stuff I was doing in 1996 and 1997 was a lot better than I thought," he told The New York Times.

Shields now plans to finish that record, before starting work on another completely new album this autumn.

Shields added that the band have spend £200,000 on equipment for their current tour.

Arthur Lee & Love film is released on DVD

Love StoryI'm sure if you're on this website you are more than familiar with the work of Arthur Lee and Love. Following it's premier at the 50th London Film Festival in October 2006, a documentary film based on the band 'The Love Story' finally makes it to DVD.

Here's what the producers had to say about the film:

"Love Story is the story of LA band Love & their legendary frontman Arthur Lee. Their tale is one of the great untold rock & roll stories. One of the first mixed race rock bands, the dark vision of their music set them apart from the utopian ideals of the 'Flower Power' generation and the 'Summer of Love' era.

Love Story covers their journey from the beginning, to the present day. From their origins at Dorsey High School in South Los Angeles, to their disintegration in 1968, and their continuing relevance to this day.

Sadly the interviews we filmed with Arthur Lee were to be his last. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid lukemia and died on August 3rd 2006. The world is a duller place without him."

Featuring interviews with Primal Scream's Mani & Bobby Gillespie alongside other featured guests including Shack and Ken Livingstone. The DVD also comes with a booklet containing liner notes from Bobby Gillespie.

Below is the advert for the film:

Cherry Red reissue classic Ed Ball albums

Ed BallEd Ball re-releases three of his classic albums on Artpop via Cherry Red this month. Two of the albums are from The Times (Pop Goes Art! and Enjoy/Up Against It) alongside one of my personal favourites 'Star' by Teenage Filmstars. All three albums include bonus tracks.

Here's what Ed Ball posted about the albums on his MySpace page:

"Three albums through one decade - 1982 to 1992 - from the amateur business entrepreneurship of Whaam! Records and ArTpOp! to the outta-control multi-millions madness that was the Creation label. From True Pop Art to Real Psychedelia - 10 years in an open-necked paisley shirt.

These are perhaps the records I'm the proudest of from the "Edward Ball Oeuvre". Not least for the labels that they're associated with, but most especially for the songs I crafted for the talismanic Pop Goes Art!, the belief to Independent Thinking on Enjoy, and the commitment to noise and vagueness of the Teenage Filmstars Star.

Early O Level and Teenage Filmstars may have more period charm, my later solo records more inclined to melancholic madness, but ten years that define my idea of a journey to the unknown in the world of Independent record-making would be this triple broadside.

OUT NOW! Available from all good vendors.

Edward the Undignified."

My Bloody Valentine play first gig in 16 years

Belinda Butcher ICA London June 2008My Bloody Valentine delighted their fans with a host of old classics as they played their first gig in 16 years tonight (June 13) at London's ICA.

The band playing two 'warm up' shows at the venue before the tour proper starts next week (June 20), came onstage at 9.30pm to delirious cheers from the sold-out crowd.

Frontman Kevin Shields said: "Welcome to our rehearsal. The real gigs start next week at the Roundhouse", referring to MBV's five-night run at north London venue, which kicks off on June 20, and are their 'official' comeback dates.

The group then kicked off with 'Only Shallow', the opening track from their classic 1991 album 'Loveless', to huge cheers.

The four-piece, playing in front of a psychedelic backdrop and using fierce strobes, then went on to perform a 15-song set, concentrating wholly on the period between 1987 and 1991 when they were signed to Creation Records.

There were six songs from 'Loveless', including crowd favourite 'Soon', and four from the album which preceded it, 1988's 'Isn't Anything', including the single 'Feed Me With Your Kiss'.

The rest of the set was made up of tracks from the EPs the band recorded on the label, including the standard near 20-minute run through closer 'You Made Me Realise', My Bloody Valentine's first single on Creation. The group then received an ecstatic reception as they left the stage.

The set was:

'Only Shallow'
'You Never Should'
'Honey Power'
'I Only Said'
'Cigarette In Your Bed'
'Thorn'
'Nothing Much To Lose'
'To Here Knows When'
'When You Sleep'
'Slow'
'Blown A Wish'
'Soon'
'Feed Me With Your Kiss'
'Sueisfine'
'You Made Me Realise'

The band play the ICA again tomorrow.

The Telescopes to release new album

Textile Rds have announced they are to the release the new Telescopes album called Infinite Suns. This release is a vinyl only release and is strictly limited. The release date is June 24th.

Infinite Suns begins a new era of change in the Telescopes music field, with a new line up of Bridget Hayden & Stephen Lawrie. This LP is very much number one, the introduction to a serie of release (2 new albums and one live recording)

This new LP is a selection of analogue tape recordings taken between 2006 and 2007, using a multi directional mic to capture environmental response. Recording levels were set close to saturation, allowing for interaction with the tape machine itself.

Side one closes with a piece centered around a lock-groove from the run-out of The Telescopes first album and is lock-grooved again to play endlessly.

The recording took place in a room used by a deep trance medium to hold investigative seances. The album ends with The Telescopes channelling out on each others instruments.

The sound of earthquakes dreaming, where black holes reveal infinite suns.

Side 1--Static Charge/Thought Loops/Northumberland
Side 2--Tidal Bandwidth/Chrome Gulls

My Bloody Valentine to re-release Creation albums

My Bloody Valentine are to re-issue their two unimpeachable classic albums-- Loveless and Isn't Anything-- as they get the deluxe remaster treatment.

As initially reported on Wired's Blog Network and now confirmed by a Sony BMG UK rep, the only two MBV albums that matter (This Is Your Bloody Valentine was practically an EP anyway) will hit UK shops June 16 in newly remastered formats. While the Isn't Anything remaster spans only one disc, the Loveless one comes as a double-disc: the first disc remastered from both DAT (digital audio tape) and analogue tape, and the second remastered from just analogue tape. No needless bonus cuts or anything, just two gems in all their pristine, self-contained glory.

Vinyl editions of these remasters are expected to follow in the UK, and the Sony BMG rep suggests the band and label are mulling "other possible releases for later in the year." Ooh, maybe that long-rumored EP/rarities box? Or the new MBV album Kevin Shields teased us about late last year? We'll be gazing holes into our sneakers while we wait to find out.

Kevin and co. will be staring straight through to the soles of theirs as well, beginning June 20 in London.

Gruff Rhys returns as Neon Neon

Neon NeonSuper Furry Animals' front man Gruff Rhys returns as Neon Neon, his collaboration with Boom-Bip.

Stainless Style has just been released on the Lex record label and also features guest appearances with Spank Rock, Yo Majesty, Fat Lip and Cate Le Bon.

The album is a concept album about the life and times of John DeLorean and namechecks Michael Douglas, Raquel Welch and Knight Rider within its tracks. John DeLorean borrowed enormous sums of money [including £85 million from the British Government] in order to fulfill his lifelong dream of building an automotive empire. His crowning glory, the iconic DMC-12, better known as simply 'The DeLorean', was fittingly immortalized as Marty and Doc's time machine in legendary 80s movie Back To The Future. With his jet-setting lifestyle, fast cars and sharp flared suits, the flamboyant DeLorean had no shortage of female admirers and was connected to a string of glamorous lovers including US film and TV star Raquel Welch "The most desired woman of the 70s" according to Playboy Magazine, she became an international sex symbol and was the subject of Neon Neon's first single...

Don't let all of that put you off, this is easily the best pop album since Les Rythmes Digitales' 'Darkdancer'.

The third single from the album 'I Lust U' is released tomorrow (24th March) as 7" picture disc or mp3. The video for the single can be seen below.

Mark Gardener guests on new Brian Jonestown Massacre album

Brian Jonestown MassacreMark Gardener is to guest on the new album by the legendary Brian Jonestown Massacre.

'My Bloody Underground' is released on March 31st and was recorded between Iceland and Liverpool.

The press release reads as follows:

This is the first Brian Jonestown Massacre album in over 4 years, recorded with select members from the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Icelandic musicians, and Mark Gardener (Ride). Recorded in Liverpool and Reykjavik in August 2007 and completed in Reykjavik in October 2007. This is the thirteenth full length album from the Brian Jonestown Massacre released on Anton's label - 'A recordings". This album offers a mix of the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound with a more experimental and avant-guard approach. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist/singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995 The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp! Records, the label which gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

Mark Gardener previously joined the Brian Jonestown Massacre onstage with fellow Ride member Andy Bell at last years Truck Festival which had to be moved indoors due to flooding. Together onstage they performed the Ride classic 'Drive Blind'. A video of which is below:

For those of you who are BJM fans, Joel Gion will be visiting the UK at the end of March with his other band The Dilattantes. They start the tour with a FREE gig at Sonic Cathedral in London on March 21st before moving across the country.

Keith Baxter R.I.P.

3 Colours RedA posting on the Therapy? website states that Keith Baxter of 3 Colours Red has unfortunately died. The message states the following:

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of good friend and musician Keith Baxter. Many of you will know that he was the vastly talented drummer with Three Colours Red who helped Therapy? out in 2002 and was on our Scandanavian tour as well as many summer festivals that year.

All of us are in shock and our thoughts are with Rachael and his family as well as any former bandmates and crew who spent time with him.

An intelligent and humble man whose wide eyed sense of excitement was infectious, he will be missed by many and will always have a special place in our hearts.

Love and Respect,

Therapy?"

Jesus & Mary Chain announce London dates

The Jesus and Mary Chain have announced a pair of London shows for next spring.

The act will appear at the favourite haunt of the reformed, in London at least, with tickets for the two Roundhouse shows on sale now.

March
11 London Roundhouse
12 London Roundhouse

In other news... Jim Reid has written on the JAMC and his own myspace pages about being misquoted in some reviews about the Brixton Academy show. Here's what he wants to clear up:

**
i just thought i should write this to anyone who is interested.

It's been reported in a couple of reviews (the NME and The Independent) that at our Brixton Academy show that I made a comment to the audience "You are a bunch of miserable bastards".

Some people might think it's no big deal but i think it's actually important to point out that i did infact say "WE are a bunch of miserable bastards", which seemed appropriate at the time, as it was just after the song 'Happy When it Rains'. I've asked both of these publications to print a retraction, but i'd have more chance of the editors coming round cleaning my toilets. I have been told that they will print my letter though. so let's wait and see...

But for what it's worth, and for whoever cares, it amazes me that we can still play in venues such as The Brixton Academy, and that anyone cares enough to come, i certainly don't take a Jesus and Mary Chain audience for granted.

Kevin Shields also recently gave an interview to VBS.TV where he talks about the new My Bloody Valentine album due soon.

You can watch the first part of the interview below, to watch the latter parts of the interview click here.

All the above news follows an hilarious article on the Guardian website where Dave Simpson proclaimed "Even though I liked the band (My Bloody Valentine) quite a bit at the time, I just can't help feeling sceptical about a comeback. It seems at least 10 years too late; MBV bear no relation to anything currently (or even recently) going on in pop and the thought of an older, mature version of their noise terrorist young selves struggling to fill pub venues has me reaching for my tinnitus cures in despair." Some journalists just do not have a clue about music, shame as I enjoyed reading his Avanti fanzine back in the day.

SwervedriverSwervedriver reunite for tour

Swervedriver will reunite for a worldwide 2008 tour after a nearly decade-long hiatus. Dates and other details have yet to be announced.

The group (vocalist/guitarist Adam Franklin, guitarist Jimmy Hartridge, bassist Steve George and drummer Jez) split on the heels of its 1998 album "99th Dream." Although it never enjoyed major commercial success in the U.S., Swervedriver was beloved by fans for its psychedelia-tinged rock sound, best heard on the 1993 album "Mezcal Head."

Of late, Franklin has recorded with his band Toshack Highway and as a solo artist. He's presently in the midst of a solo outing in support of his recent album, "Bolts of Melody," and will perform tonight (Oct. 19) in Milwaukee.

House Of Love re-issue Creation album

The House of LoveThe House Of Love have announced details of the re-issue of their seminal self-titled debut album on 22nd October 2007.

The band are also set to perform the first album in its entirety when they play London’s Koko on 13th September as part of the Don’t Look Back series of gigs.

They are additionally set to re-release a compilation of early singles and rare tracks on October 22nd. This record, also self-titled, was initially released in 1988 as an import only through Rough Trade Europe and collected together the A & B sides of the bands first 2 singles, Real Animal and Shine On, plus some previously un-released tracks. The re-issue will also feature the A & B sides of the band’s seminal single, Destroy The Heart, which didn’t appear on the original album.

The band’s debut long player was first released on Creation Records in 1988 following their much-acclaimed single, Christine. The 10-track album, featuring classic tracks such as Hope, Man To Child & Love In A Car was quickly hailed as one of the definitive independent releases of the late 1980’s.

Long out of print, the re-issue will come lavishly packaged in a card gatefold sleeve featuring the definitive original artwork plus extensive new sleeve notes.

The band re-formed in 2005 to release the warmly received long player, Days Run Away. This incarnation of the House of Love saw original members Guy Chadwick and Terry Bickers re-united for the first time in over a decade. This original line up, also featuring Pete Evans on drums, will perform at the Don’t Look Back show in September.

Tickets for the show are priced at £17.50 and available via www.seetickets.com or www.wegottickets.com or through a 24hr CC line on 0870 264 3333.

My Bloody Valentine for Coachella 2008?

My Bloody valentineIs the long wait finally over? My Bloody Valentine, the legendary sonic sculptors of feedback and tremelo who helped define the shoegaze movement only to disband after releasing just two full length albums, is set to make its first live appearance in more than a decade at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA in April, 2008. According to sources in the United States and the United Kingdom who are familiar with the negotiations, the band is close to signing a deal that will see a reunited My Bloody Valentine headline Coachella, scheduled for April 25–27, before embarking on a world tour sometime later in 2008.

A My Bloody Valentine reunion has long been the subject of intense speculation, with a seemingly endless stream of rumors surfacing each year about tours, reissues, DVDs, box sets, and even brand new recordings – but as of today none have come to fruition. The band formed in the mid 1980s and released a series of EPs on various labels before solidifying around the lineup of guitarist/singer Kevin Shields, drummer Colm O’Ciosoig, singer-guitarist Bilinda Butcher, and bassist Debbie Googe. After signing to Creation Records, the band released several EPs and two albums, 1988’s Isn’t Anything and 1991’s Loveless, now considered one of the era’s most classic recordings. After a bitter split with Creation, the band signed to Island Records (UK) in 1992, but never produced another release. According to a 1995 interview with Simon Reynolds, the band’s inability to meet their own aesthetic expectations and the financial stress of inactivity led to Shields’ “meltdown.” The rest of the group drifted apart and My Bloody Valentine simply vansihed without ever releasing another album.

In recent years, Shields has been an elusive yet constant presence on the music scene, appearing on recordings and stages with groups like Experimental Audio Research, Curve, Dinosaur Jr, and Primal Scream. His solo work as a remixer and recording artist have appeared sporadically, most notably on the soundtracks for Sophia Coppola’s films Lost In Translation and Marie Antoinette. And in the intervening years, the legend of My Bloody Valentine, a band who’s sound was long considered years ahead of its time, has grown much larger in its absence.

But now some tantalizing hints have emerged in the past few weeks that suggest the band is finally gearing up for a return to action. In July, several fans reported encounters with Shields at Primal Scream and Dinosaur Jr. shows in England, Ireland, and Russia, each returning with the same story: that Shields very matter-of-factly spoke of My Bloody Valentine in the very present tense. The fans reported Shields said that two new My Bloody Valentine releases are in the works – an anthology of unreleased 90s material and an album of brand new studio recordings – along with the imminent release of remastered versions of the band’s original studio work. He is also reported as saying, on several different occasions, that a 2008 tour is in the works that will feature the band’s original lineup. (Read some of the reports here, here, and here.) Furthermore, in an interview published earlier this year in Magnet magazine, Shields was adamant about the band’s return: “We are 100% going to make another My Bloody Valentine record unless we die or something,” he said.

Tony Wilson dies from cancer

Tony WilsonAnthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, has died of cancer.

The Salford-born entrepreneur, who founded Factory records, the label behind New Order and the Happy Mondays, was diagnosed last year.

The 57-year-old, also famous for setting up the Hacienda nightclub, underwent emergency surgery in January to remove a kidney.

He passed away on Friday evening at the Christie Hospital surrounded by family. A spokesman for the hospital said: "Tony Wilson died peacefully at the Christie Hospital at 6.05pm this evening with his family by his bedside. "Tony was a very great supporter of the Christie and this is extremely sad news. "We would like to extend our sympathy to Tony's family."

Doctors had recommended he take the drug Sutent after chemotherapy failed to beat the disease, but the NHS refused to fund the £3,500-a-month treatment. However, members of the Happy Mondays and other acts he supported over the years stepped in and started a fund to help pay for it.

His vision and determination played a key role in helping to put Manchester on the map for its music and vibrant nightlife and his entrepreneurial skills inspired people everywhere. Phil Saxe, who used to work at Factory Records with Wilson, said: "Part of me, part of Manchester, part of modern British music has died tonight. "Tony was a genius, basically. "He was a visionary in that he helped bands, who otherwise wouldn't have made it, who were a bit out of the ordinary.

"He helped them realise their dreams and through that probably realised himself to be Mr Manchester".

BBC journalist Kristan Deconinck sought advice from him in the early 1980s on how to launch an independent record label shortly after Wilson had started Factory records."He couldn't have been more helpful and more patient," Kristan said. "He inspired me - and countless others - to have a go if you believed in something. "That in itself is a great legacy, apart from the vision he had with his label, his shows, his attitude - his contribution to a new culture. "When I later met him, I found him far more amenable than scurrilous rumours had led me to believe and my esteem for the guy never diminished."

Speaking before his death, Wilson reflected on life and death. "I used to joke in my early 50s that I'd had such a fantastic life, I'd be happy to die," he said. "And then suddenly, I find some other reasons for living and just like get excited again about life when it comes along. So that was slightly annoying. I think I was a lord of my own presumption for thinking I'd be happy to die".

Tributes to Anthony Wilson have been flooding in from across the globe - both from people who had worked with him and those who had enjoyed the entertainment he brought to the world. Speaking on News 24, Radio 2 presenter Stuart Maconie said: "There was no more influential and important figure in music in the last 30 or 40 years.

"He was incredibly generous, giving, enthusiastic and supportive of bands around him.

"He wasn't a businessman. He just loved the music."

The BBC, which employed Wilson, paid its own tribute.

"There will never be anyone quite like Tony," a spokesman said. "He was a true free spirit and a passionate advocate of Manchester - the city, its people and, of course, its music."

Fan Lewis Hart, from Hyde, Greater Manchester, wrote: "A one off who was an ambassador for Manchester. A huge shock."

Another fan, Ross Burton, from Annapolis, Maryland, in the USA, summed up his many achievements with a poignant eulogy: "Thanks Tony for helping to bring me the soundtrack of my life. Rest in peace mate."

Sice returns with new album

SiceSice, the former Boo Radleys lead singer has come out of retirement with the announcement of a forthcoming album – his first in nine years.

The Boo Radleys split up in 1999 after a decade of mixed success. They found massive popularity during the height of Britpop with their '96 album 'Wake Up!' on the back of catchy summer hit 'Wake Up Boo!'

After the band's critically and commercially panned final two albums 'C'mon Kids' and 'Kingsize' - Sice vowed to retire and never come back to the industry.

However, after periodic flirtations with music, Sice is back after forming a new band, “Paperlung” with bassist Simon Gardiner after a chance meeting in a bar at Victoria Station. Within eight weeks, Sice recruited Ben Datlen on guitar and Guillaume Jambel on drums added to the line up, and already played their first gig together.

Paperlung’s just completed debut album, “Balance” is says Sice: "Unashamedly melodic. I can’t write songs any other way. What matters most to me in music is melody, with harmony coming a close second."

He adds: “The album is all about relationships. Every kind of human relationship: partner to partner, father to child, child to parents and friend to friend. Balance, as a title, sums up what most people are forever striving to achieve within these relationships.”

Balance is released through Shifty Disco on October 1.

Edward Ball reissues two more albums

Ed Ball's ArtPop! label have re-released two albums this month via Cherry Red.

'Go! With The Times' by The Times and 'A Day In The Life Of Gilbert & George 1977-1980' by O Level are now in the shops both featuring bonus tracks and extended sleeve notes.

Here's the press release for both albums:

Go! With The TimesEdward Ball and Daniel Treacy, The Times and the TV Personalities in 1980 - twenty year old visionaries of a sound that surrounds us more than quarter of a century later, or nitwits in cravats and beige corduroys? You decide… Start by listening to 'Red With Purple Flashes' or 'My Andy Warhol Poster', songs and a sound that predates the artistic interests and ambitions of Babyshambles. Or 'Pinstripes', even 'Dressing Up For The Cameras' - using irony like a bazooka and social observance long before THe Artic Monkeys and The Kooks. How about 'The Joke's On Zandra' - Franz Ferdinand anyone? Everything you hear today, you can hear on this release, the first Times album from November 1980. Only when they did it there was nothing to compare. It's the sound of youth, the father we hate in its sights. Not afraid to ridicule anything or anyone - 'Interview' magazine-period Warhol, Zandra Rhodes - post-punk idiots to the slaughter. The Times hold the dogs of rage without letting them bite. And until the Smiths turned up, no one could do it with the same degree of humour. As we've come to expect with ARTPOP! releases, the label maintains it's high standard, reissuing the original album in its entirety, plus previously unavailable extra tracks. Also containing extensive extracts from the Edward Ball Diaries, quotes from all involved and a plethora of pictures seen and previously unseen. And remember, the next time you listen to the Times' 'No Hard Feelings' and imagine it to be Pete Docherty's Lets Make Up song for Carl in a Libertines reformation, don't blame me!!

Red with Purple Flashes / You Can Get It / I'm With You / Your Generation / Pinstripes / Dressing Up For The Cameras / The Jokes On Zandra / Nowhere To Run / No Hard Feelings / My Andy Warhol Poster / Theme From 'Man From Uncle' / Reflections In An Imperfect Mirror Alternate Session Versions As The Teenage Filmstars Nov 80: / I'm With You (Previously Unreleased Therefore Unavailable On Cd) / Dressing Up For The Cameras Go! With The Times Mixes By Joseph J. Foster for 1994 Revolva Reissue: / My Andy Warhol Poster / Pinstripes / The Jokes On Zandra / No Hard Feelings / Reflections IN An Imperfect Mirror / Red With Purple Flashes (Live At The Ilford Palais 14/8/83).

O Level 1977 - 1980"I don't really sing in the shower, but one song I'm currently singing a lot is We Love Malcolm. It was recorded by O Level in 1978, and the chorus goes (sings) 'We Love Malcolm, If no-one else does'." Malcolm Mclaren, Mojo, Oct 2001

"The ultimate punk band? The Television Personalities. Second to the Ramones. They're slightly obscure, but they brought a severe sense of intelligence to it, just at a time when punk needed the piss taken out of it..." Joe Strummer, Spin, Early 2000.

A complete collection of the early works of Edward Ball, including his chums Daniel Treacy and Joseph Foster. Recording ground breaking DIY singles together as the TV Personalities, O Level and the Teenage Filmstars in the late 70s, this triumvirate of pop entrepreneurs later launched or co-founded the Whaam!, Artpop!, Creation and Rev Ola labels - quite literally inventing a syndicate of sound and ideas that reverberated gently throughout the 80s, violently throughout the 90s and inescapably today. Including the original released recordings of the 'We Love Malcolm' EP as O Level, the Teenage Filmstars singles 'Cloud Over Liverpool' and 'I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape', this ARTPOP! package doesn't disappoint, reissuing the original Rev Ola compilation from 1992, plus previously unavailable extra tracks. Also containing extensive recording documentation, quotes from all involved and a plethora of pictures.

Pseudo Punk / We Love Malcolm / Everybody's On Revolver Tonight / (There's A) Cloud Over Liverpool / Sometimes Good Guys Don't Follow Trends / I Helped Patrick Mcgoohan Escape / We're Not Sorry / I Apologies / Odd Man Out / Leave Me / Stairway To Boredom / East Sheen / O Levels / He's A Professional / The John Peel March / Many Unhappy Returns / I Love To Clean My Polaris Missile / Don't Play God With My Life / East Sheen Revisited / Odd Man Out (Rough Mix) / I Apologise (Rough Mix) / We're Not Sorry (Without Phase) / He's A Professional (Alternate Session Take). / Back In The Night (Live At The London Oratory School Disco, xmas 1976). / Brown Sugar (Live At The London Oratory School Disco, xmas 1976).

Mojave 3 split?

Mojave 3Mojave 3 is effectively over.

After dragging its feet and remaining in the dark about its future, Mojave 3's finally come to terms with its future -- or lack thereof. The band's officially on the back burner, as drummer Ian McCutcheon's revealed the band's thrown in the towel, after two EPs and five full-lengths, most recently last year's Puzzles Like You (4AD).

"There are no plans what-so-ever to record another Mojave3 record," he said in a statement focusing on his other band, The Loose Salute.

Mojave 3's last few years of existence weren't without its problems. Last summer, bassist Rachel Goswell was forced to take a break from live music due to problems with her ears, while solo projects from Goswell and front man Neil Halstead slowed the act's progress.

Halstead and Goswell have solo projects that will continue to brew, while McCutcheon and keyboardist Allan Forrester return to action in The Loose Salute.

Jesus & Mary Chain make live return

The Jesus And Mary Chain made their live return last night (April 27) a "secret" Coachella Festival warm-up show.

The band played the Glass House in Pomona, California, their first gig since 1998, to prepare for their festival return today (April 28).

According to Laist.COM, the group played a "slow but steady" set which saw frontman Jim Reid ask the crowd "happy we're back?".

After the crowd cheered, he simply told them to "fuck off" and looked at his drummer.

Actress Scarlett Johansson had been rumoured to sing the female vocals on the band's classic 'Just Like Honey' at the gig, however on the night Giant Drag's Annie Hardy filled in.

The band are now due to play Coachella itself and NME.COM will be on site bringing you coverage from this year's event.
